The Building
The Depot Coffee House occupies a restored brick railroad depot in Hopkins. The City of Hopkins dates the building to 1903. It now serves as a neighborhood coffeehouse, regional trailhead, arts venue, and home for youth programming.
The Project
In an August 2024 visit, Nick Bender checked in on a project he had worked on roughly sixteen years earlier. The building's energy systems included rooftop solar, an air-source heat pump, and an air-exchange system.
The source does not provide equipment models, energy data, or Nick's exact contractual scope. What it does show is the value of returning to an older project to see how the complete system is holding up over time.
The Result
At the time of Nick's visit, all three systems were still operating. For a historic public building, that longevity is a useful reminder that good building-performance work is not only about what runs on installation day. It is about creating a system that continues to serve the building years later.
